Agnotitaphilia is the act of chastity, or the act of abstaining from sexual activity or stimulation. For purposes of the fetish culture, this usually is accomplished by use of a bondage device, such as a chastity belt, tube, sheath or cage. They are a means for the wearer to surrender their sexual behaviour, either for sexual play, a long-term method of preventing infidelity, or masturbation.

Commonly, the act of agnotitaphilia is at the hands of a dominant person. In these cases, it is common for the arousal to stem from the act of giving their sexuality to the control of another; the inability to enjoy sexual stimulation without their permission. For others, the act of limiting their sexual experiences for long periods of time is thought to provide a higher level of pleasure once the limitation is lifted.
