new here? start here.
Maybe you've just realised you like men, or that your gender isn't what you were told. Maybe a fetish has been on your mind for years and you finally want to understand it. Whatever brought you here, you're welcome. This page is a map. Take it one step at a time, in any order, and come back whenever you need to.
General information for adults, not medical, legal or mental health advice; see our legal policies. GFG grew out of gay men's kink and leather, and everyone across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum belongs here.
before you start
- There's no right order. Some people sort out who they are first. Others find kink first and the rest follows. Both are fine.
- You don't need a label today. Words can help you find others like you, but you can pick them up and put them down as you learn.
- Curiosity isn't a commitment. Reading about something doesn't mean you have to do it. Plenty of people enjoy learning about kinks they never try.
the five steps
1. who am i?
Explore your orientation and gender, gently and without pressure.
2. learning kink
Find out what's out there, then learn how to play with care.
3. staying healthy & safe
Look after your body, your privacy and your rights.
4. finding your people
Meet others, learn where the community came from, and find your colours.
5. feelings & relationships
Work through the hard parts and bring kink into the life you already have.
going at your own pace
- Read first, play later. Learning before you try something is how most experienced players started.
- Talk to someone you trust. A friend, a partner or a kink-aware professional can help you sort through what you're feeling.
- Take breaks. If a page stirs up big feelings, step away and come back. That's normal, and it's part of the process.
- Be kind to yourself. Many of us spent years hiding who we are. You're allowed to take your time.
browsing privately
If you share a phone or computer, or you're not out yet, a few habits help keep your browsing to yourself.
- Use a private window (Incognito in Chrome, Private Browsing in Safari and Firefox). It won't save this visit in your history. A private window doesn't hide your browsing from your internet provider, or from a work or school network.
- Use the "leave now" button in the corner of these pages, or press Esc twice. It takes you to a weather page straight away.
- Clear your history afterwards if you didn't use a private window. You can usually delete just the last hour.
- Check shared accounts. Bookmarks, saved passwords and search history can sync across devices on the same account.
if you need help now
If you're struggling, feel unsafe, or are having thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out. Our support & crisis lines page lists free, confidential services by country, including LGBTQIA+ and trans lines.
The leave now button (or Esc twice) hides this page, but it doesn't erase your browsing history. A private or incognito window leaves less trace.
