sex work & pro kink
Plenty of people in the gay and kink scene have paid for sex or a session, been paid for it, or both. Escorts, pro dommes and dominants, cam models and content creators are part of our community. Whatever the law where you live, everyone deserves to be safe.
General information, not legal advice, and not an advertisement for any service; see our legal policies. Laws on buying and selling sex differ a lot between countries, and even between cities; check the law where you are. We don't list, link to or allow ads for escort, booking or paid-sex services anywhere on this site.
the law, in short
Some countries treat sex work as legal work, some make buying sex a crime but not selling it, and some criminalise everything around it. Professional BDSM without sex is legal in more places than sex work, but not everywhere. In the US, laws such as FOSTA-SESTA (2018) shut down many websites workers used to screen clients, which many workers and researchers say made the work more dangerous. Our kink & the law section has more.
safety for workers
- Screen new clients the way that works for you: references from other workers, a deposit, and checking them against bad-date lists.
- Use a safe call: tell someone where you are and when you'll check in. See meeting people safely.
- Share warnings with other workers through peer networks and "bad date" lists.
- Negotiate the session like any scene: limits, safewords, what's included, and what isn't. Pro dominants still need to follow safety basics.
- Protect your identity: separate phone, email and payment accounts. See digital privacy.
- Sexual health: PrEP, DoxyPEP and regular testing; many clinics run confidential services for sex workers. See sexual health.
for clients
If you're a client: respect screening, because it's how workers stay safe. Consent and limits apply in full, and paying doesn't buy anything that wasn't agreed. If someone seems underage, frightened or controlled by someone else, stop. Report it to the trafficking services on our support page, or in the US to the National Human Trafficking Hotline (1-888-373-7888).
online & content work
Cam work and selling content (on subscription sites and similar) bring different risks: leaks, piracy, and being recognised. Watermark your content, keep your face, tattoos and backgrounds in mind, and know that platforms can change their rules overnight. If your images are shared without permission, see image abuse.
support & rights
- SWOP USAThe Sex Workers Outreach Project, a US network for sex worker rights and peer support.
- English Collective of ProstitutesA UK sex worker-led group offering legal and practical support.
- NSWPThe Global Network of Sex Work Projects, with member groups in many countries.
International Sex Workers' Day (2 June) and the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers (17 December) are in our kink holidays dictionary.
