hotwife

A hotwife is a woman or femme in a committed relationship who has consensual sex with other people, with her partner’s knowledge and often his encouragement. Her primary partner, called a hothusband or stag, may watch, hear about the encounters afterwards, help arrange them, or simply know they are happening. The outside lover is commonly called a bull. The dynamic draws on ethical non-monogamy, voyeurism and some of the same fantasies as cuckolding, but frames them around her pleasure and desirability rather than his humiliation.

How involved the primary partner is varies widely. Some hotwives see others on their own and share as much or as little detail as the couple agrees; in other arrangements the partner organises dates or meets the other person without joining in; in others he watches or takes part in a threesome. A related framing, stag and vixen, puts the couple on a more equal footing, with both motivated by exhibitionism and compersion and the stag more likely to direct or join the action. Some hotwives wear an anklet, sometimes with a charm such as a key, an infinity symbol or a pineapple, as a discreet sign of an open relationship.

The appeal is different for each couple. For many women it is about feeling powerful and openly wanted, setting her own terms while her partner celebrates rather than resents that desire. Some couples say the honesty involved deepens trust, others enjoy the taboo of playing with the idea of infidelity inside a fully agreed arrangement, and some want sexual variety without giving up the emotional bond of their main relationship.

“Hot wife” originally meant nothing more than an attractive married woman. Swinging and lifestyle communities later gave the one-word form its current meaning, and it spread widely through the internet and adult media.

Safety & Consent

Hotwifing works best when it starts with conversation rather than sex. Couples usually talk about why the idea appeals to each of them, how involved each wants to be, and what rules apply around specific acts, overnight stays, emotional attachment and contact with other partners. Consent is ongoing, and either partner can pause or stop at any time. Safer-sex agreements and regular STI testing should be discussed with everyone involved, and PrEP or DoxyPEP can be raised with a clinician.
