financial domination

Financial domination is a form of power exchange in which the dominant partner consensually receives or controls the submissive’s money, and the giving or surrender of that money is itself the act of submission. It is often shortened to FinDom, a name also used for the dominant role, and the submissive is commonly called a paypig or finsub. Many dynamics also include an element of emotional or psychological sadism.

It differs from paying for a session or service, because here the money is the focus of the play rather than payment for something else. It can take the form of tributes and gifts, the dominant overseeing or approving the submissive’s spending, or the “draining” of an account the dominant has been consensually given access to. It can sit within a wider power exchange relationship or be the main kink on its own. Money and gifts have long had a place in BDSM, but financial domination grew into a distinct kink with online communication and digital payments, and much of it now happens entirely online.

Submissives may enjoy the clear, concrete way that paying hands over control, the humiliation of being drained or called a paypig, the ritual of regular tributes, the attention of being noticed and chosen, or the sense of real stakes that comes from involving something tied to security. Dominants often describe the appeal as authority over another person’s behaviour, the validation of being valued, the creativity of playing a persona, or the income it can provide.

Financial domination is often misunderstood as exploitation, and scams in online spaces have added to that stigma. When practised ethically, it rests on negotiation and mutual consent like any other form of power exchange.

Being threatened or blackmailed? If someone threatens to share your images or out you unless you pay, that's extortion, not kink, and it isn't your fault. Don't pay, save the evidence, and get help: it's listed on our Support & Crisis Lines page.
