vacuum pump

A vacuum pump is a device that lowers the air pressure inside a chamber placed on the body, drawing the skin and tissue into it. Partners use the resulting suction for pleasure, pain, swelling, heightened sensitivity or as part of stretching play.

A typical setup has three parts: the pump, a rigid or semi-rigid chamber such as a cylinder or cup, and a hose linking them, although some small devices have the pump built straight onto the chamber. Pumps may be worked by hand or by an electric motor, and some electric ones can hold a steady pressure or cycle between levels. Simple pinch-and-release cups, sometimes called suckers, are gentler and suit nipples and genitals. As blood is pulled into the area, it becomes swollen, flushed and more sensitive for a while, which many people enjoy both for the feeling and for the look.

Common kinds include:

  • Penis pumps
  • Testicle or ball pumps
  • Vulva and clitoral pumps
  • Nipple and breast pumps
  • Vacuum beds, which use suction to hold a whole body inside a latex sheet

Some rigid cups overlap with cupping. Fire cupping is a separate practice that combines cupping with fire play.

Safety & Consent

Too much suction can bruise the skin, burst small blood vessels or damage nerves. Pumps should have a release valve so pressure can be let off at once, and long sessions are best avoided. Partners should keep an eye on skin colour and warmth and stop straight away if numbness or pain appears.
