Black Triangle
‹ Flag library
Like the pink triangle, the black triangle traces back to Nazi Germany. Lesbians were not covered by Paragraph 175, but evidence suggests the black triangle was used to mark prisoners deemed "anti-social" — likely including lesbians, sex workers, women who refused to bear children, and others outside the regime's narrow ideal of womanhood. As the pink triangle is historically a male symbol, the black triangle has been reclaimed by lesbians and feminists as a mark of pride and solidarity.
