Mercury

The astrological sign of Mercury is traditionally used as a symbol for transgender people. In Greek mythology, Hermes and Aphrodite had a child, Hermaphroditus, who possessed both male and female sexual organs — the origin of the term hermaphrodite. Rituals honouring Aphrodite are believed to have involved castration, transvestism, and homosexual relations.
In the symbol, the crescent moon at top represents the masculine and the cross at bottom the feminine, with the ring representing the individual balanced between them.
