Queer Pagan Pride Flag
‹ Flag library
An artist and writer of Barnsley, New South Wales, Australia, publishing as Laura Seabrook and, on Flickr, as Laura Ess designed the Queer Pagan Flag in 1997, first in vinyl with an "Athena" symbol at the centre of the pentagram for the modern Galli or Gallae, and later dropped that symbol "to make it more appropriate as a general Queer Pagan flag." A full-sized flag was made and carried in the 2006 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. She released the design under Creative Commons on 28 July 2006 and restated the release on DeviantArt in 2014, where she also published two variations of her own, an inverted version and the Fey Pagan Flag.
The design represents the intersection of Queer and Neo-Pagan communities, and is intended as the general flag of Queer Paganism. The black of the field and the pentagram represent the strength in unity, and the circle represents the whole rather than the part.
