A fuckbox is a piece of BDSM furniture in which a person is enclosed, with openings that leave certain parts of the body, usually the mouth, genitals or anus, reachable from outside. As with a gloryhole, those inside and outside may see little or nothing of each other.
The person in the box usually takes the bottom or submissive role. Their position is confined and they may also be restrained, so the people outside decide what happens and when. Designs vary: in some the person lies down with the legs inside or sticking out, in others they bend forward so the hips and legs are outside while the upper body is enclosed, and some enclose only the head while the rest of the body is left exposed and often tied. Some resemble a spanking bench with a separate section for the head, and some have extra holes for hands and feet. Boxes are frequently home-built, and some clubs and dungeons have one.
It is sometimes called "the barrel" or "fuck barrel", from an old sailors' joke about taking a turn in the barrel.
The appeal differs from person to person. Some enjoy being reduced to an object or a body part to be used rather than being the centre of attention; others value the anonymity and the absence of eye contact, which can make them feel less self-conscious. For many the main draw is the helplessness of being confined and unable to steer what happens, while in group play some enjoy being on display or watching others use the person inside. It is often combined with humiliation and objectification play.
